📔 Competition Brief

Network Rail invites proposals for the design of a timepiece to display and communicate time across the UK national rail network. The timepiece should be innovative, scalable and adaptable to different formats, uses, contexts and settings. The timepiece should also be compatible with the new wayfinding signage that uses the Rail Alphabet 2 typeface.

🏆 Prizes

The competition will be run in two phases:

Phase 1: Anonymously judged design ideas competition open to all eligible entrants. Up to six shortlisted entries will each receive an honorarium of £5,000 (+VAT).
Phase 2: A further period of design development for the shortlisted entries, followed by a final presentation to the Evaluation Panel. The winner will receive a further honorarium of £10,000 (+VAT) and the opportunity to work with Network Rail to develop their design proposals.

✏ Submission

The submission requirements for Phase 1 are:

A single A1 size (841mm x 594mm) portrait orientation PDF document containing up to four pages of design proposals. The document should include a unique 6-digit registration number (obtained upon registration) in the top right-hand corner of each page. The document should not include any information that could identify the entrant.
A single A4 size (210mm x 297mm) PDF document containing a written statement of up to 500 words explaining the design approach and key features of the proposals. The document should include the same 6-digit registration number as above in the top right-hand corner. The document should not include any information that could identify the entrant.

The submission requirements for Phase 2 will be communicated to the shortlisted entrants at a later stage.
